Four DIGs promoted to AIG

The meeting of the Council of Ministers on Friday has promoted four retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) to the post of Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) on Friday.
As per their tenure, the four DIGs –Yadav Adhikary, Parashuram Khatri, Bishwaraj Shahi and Sushilbar Singh Thapa—had retired one and a half year ago. However, the Supreme Court on September 24, 2014, a week prior to their retirement, had ordered the government to promote them to the post of AIG.
But even after more than a year, Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) was yet to comply with the apex court directive, which had come in response to a writ petition filed by the four DIGs.
Though the SC order was challenged by the government, on December 18, 2015, Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha had upheld the apex court’s earlier decision and quashed the government’s review petition.
Four additional AIG posts were created for the promotion. However, these posts will be resolved after the newly promoted AIGs retire.
